Do you have a favorite beverage?

I was in the service industry for a few years and I love my beers. I’ll meet for a Juxtapose IPA from Four Winds, or Raised by Wolves IPA from Driftwood Brewing any Day :)

What gear do you work with?

I had the unfortunate experience of being robbed once at home and once after a wedding in November and December of 2021. However, I had the very fortunate experience of friends, clients, and strangers coming around me and raising money to help me by some gear. I have never been so encouraged or motivated to created incredible images for others. I have since purchased nicer gear than I’ve ever had, and will be working with:

Bodies: Nikon D780 and D750
Lenses: 105mm 1.4 E, 50mm 1.4, 35mm 1.8

How long have you been shooting weddings?

I got my start second shooting for friends in 2011, lead shot my first wedding in 2012, and have shot 5-20 weddings a year ever since! I’ve shot around 150 over the last 10 years :)

How many hours of coverage will I need?

Plan backwards! Figure out the last moment of the evening that you MUST have covered, and work from there. If you know the cake-cutting is the last moment you need documented, as you plan backward you may decide that coverage really only needs to start at the ceremony, or that you need to add a few more hours than you originally thought to capture both the bride and groom getting ready!

What ratio of Black and White to Color photos will I receive?

I LOVE Black and White. I think it’s timeless, classic and that sometimes by removing color, the true spirit and story of a moment is isolated. I aim for 20% black and white to 80% color, though if the artificial light inside a certain setting isn’t flattering, I’ll make most of the photos from that scene black and white.

How much retouching do you do?

If you have a temporary feature that would otherwise be gone in 3 weeks (zits, visible cuts), I will be happy to remove them in post-production. For other more permanent features, I prefer to capture them as they are. While clients sometimes voice insecurity about an aspect of their appearance before a shoot, I rarely hear complaints after the compound effect of beautiful makeup, light, and a shallow depth of focus have been applied. I make exceptions if the shot is for a headshot or larger print, and I will work with you to make sure you’re happy with the final result.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when location scouting?

LIGHT. Sometimes people get caught up in how beautiful a building or landscape is and want to make sure they have it as a background no matter what. However, if the sun is shining in your eyes, or harshly from directly above you, or bouncing an unflattering color onto your skin, you may have the background you like… but you won’t look your best. 95% of the time I try and have the sun BEHIND you or diffused above you (shade). I will happily help with or take charge of the scouting if it helps

What should I keep in mind when looking for a photographer?

Besides your partner, the person you will be spending the majority of your time with on your wedding day is… drumroll please… THE PHOTOGRAPHER. You may LOVE the images you see on someone’s site, but spend some time considering and inquiring about what it took to get a certain shot. Some people want the “magazine” experience, some couples would prefer a couple minutes dedicated to their portrait session and then have as many candid photos as possible.

I lean a little more towards photojournalism, while also “setting scenes” and ensuring you experience moments candidly in flattering settings. I love working with my couples to ensure they’ll be lit beautifully while they celebrate their dress reveal to their party, while they read a letter from their partner, or while they take each other in at their first look.

How long does it take to get my photos?

The contract I give you says 4-6 weeks. I generally have been able to stick to this, even at the height of summer madness. Some clients have opted to pay for a rush if they need them sooner, but if you’re just needing a couple sneak peeks I can have them to you within a week after your wedding day.

Do you need food?

I do indeed need fuel! If you’re eating, please make sure something is made available to my and my second shooter if you choose to have one. Whether I have a seat at a table is your choice, but it’s nice if I can have one if possible. It’s ideal if I can sit down for a quick bite while keeping an eye on what’s going on, and run up for a quick pic of a laugh or a kiss!
